FreeBSD: The Power to Server

FreeBSD Rocks My World

Only a geek could say such a thing, but it's true. I've been a Linux advocate since 1995, but when I started using FreeBSD last year, I knew I had found something special. It has the stability of Linux and the networking sophistication of ``the big boys.''

At this point in time, I'm rather torn. I still love Linux, the Debian and Slackware persuasions in particular, but I'm also in love with FreeBSD. Remember the Abba song from the 70's, ``Torn between two lovers''? Well, that's where I am, but it's not as juicy as her, the singer's, problem.

For FreeBSD, I run my X sessions with WindowMaker and Blackbox window managers. I'll toss up some jpegs later.

Future Plans

This is also one of those pages that I just need to get created and flesh out later. Here are some of my plans:

Daemons and Angels

Before I go too much further, you should know that I'm not some sort of devil worshipper. This little devil mascot has a name: ``Chuck.'' He's been the BSD mascot for quite some time. Notice, he's a daemon, not a demon. The words are related, but originally, a daemon was just as likely a good spirit as a bad spirit. It wasn't until centuries later that the word ``demon'' that we use today meant something to do with the devil. Even though the picture above is of a little character with a pitchfork and horns, he's not a bad guy. The impish smile and the green basketball shoes are a sure giveaway. He's the type of guy you want on your side and with you in your server room. He's a server himself.
